Five Favourites From The Week That Was!

Hey Friday! The first week of February bought with it a serious heat wave here in our corner of the globe that, at the very least, reminded us Summer is definitely here to stay for the next little while! Now that the weekend is almost upon us, some beautiful rainy weather has arrived and it looks set to stay all weekend long.

If January’s weekend were anything to go by, February is set to be a fun month with lots of trips and adventures in store – the best! This weekend, we have my parents coming to visit and I’m so excited to explore our local region with them. The rain might have other ideas, but I’m planning on a Saturday morning trip to our local farmers market, followed by a stop at the lavender farm and cafe not far from us that I’ve been wanting to visit ever since we moved to the countryside!

Before we get to all that though, here is a little look at my favourite happy moments this week…

1// Trip planning! The best way to beat the post-holiday blues after the end of a trip to is start planning the next one, pronto. Our weekend in Hobart is behind us so it’s time to start looking forward to the trips we have planned throughout the rest of the year. I hinted here what’s in store but I’ll let you know more when we know – I can say it’s going to be a great year in terms of travel!
2// The Americans. We’ve become hooked on this television series over the last few weeks after having watched the first few episodes on our long-haul flight home from Abu Dhabi after our honeymoon. It’s about sleeper spies in America during the Cold War and is seriously so good – I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet!
3// Banana pancakes! Fluffy pancakes topped with sliced banana and drizzled with Maple syrup – what Sunday mornings are made for!
4// Early mornings. I’ve been rising early each morning, by five or six at the latest, and am loving starting the day a little slower and enjoying a little extra time each morning. There’s no better way to start the day!
5// The Book Thief. I’ve been reading this book for the last month or so (it takes me forever to get through a book these days as I usually only have a few minutes a day to spare!) but I’m finding this one hard to put down. Have you read it? I hear the movie is very true to the book too, so can’t wait to watch that as soon as I’m done!
What have you all been up to this week? Let me know your favourite moments and what’s been making you happy this week in the comments below! Have a happy weekend! XO

Five Favourites From The Week That Was!

First Happy List of 2016! I’ve been saying that all week…first coffee of 2016! first blue sky! first rainy day!…it’s been constant and I’ve been annoying everyone. How has your week been? I hope your 2016 is off to a wonderful start!

My twin sister and I are kicking off a girl’s weekend at the Gold Coast tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited. It feels like ages since we spent some time together, and with me working the week between Christmas and New Year, the holiday break just wasn’t long enough. We have plans to visit the NightQuarter, the beach, the shops, and maybe treat ourselves to an indulgent pedicure and a massage. Basically, how I’ll take all my weekends in 2016, please and thank you!

Before we get to that though, see what’s been making me happy this past week below:

1// A new planner! Nothing feels like more of a fresh start than getting organised with a new planner at the beginning of a new year. I love this one from Kikki K!

2// Trying new recipes. One of the goals I made for January was to try at least one new recipe each week. This week, we tried four new recipes and they’ve all been super delicious, super healthy and super quick and easy (a definite prerequisite for a weeknight dinner in my book). So we’re off to a good start!

3// A Saturday lunch date. Last Saturday, Ty and I took a day trip to Toowoomba and on the spur of the moment, decided to try Gip’s Restaurant for lunch. Aside from being insanely gorgeous, this venue was briefly thought about as a potential wedding venue for us over a year ago. Then I had that epiphany one morning about getting married at my childhood home, and Gip’s never got another look in. BUT, it was the perfect spot for an impromptu lunch date on Saturday and the food was so AMAZING. I had the lamb tortilla and Ty had the cripsy pork salad, and both were among some of the best restaurant meals we’ve ever had. We’ll definitely be back for sure.

4// Last night’s sunset. I couldn’t help but marvel at the cotton candy sky while driving home late yesterday evening. Pastel pinks and burnt oranges mixed together as the light faded and it was so beautiful.

5// You! I’ve loved sharing our wedding with you all here on LUW this week, and I have to take a minute to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all your lovely comments and sweet, sweet words. I was completely blown away! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can’t wait to get back to sharing my final wedding posts with you all next week.

Have a fabulous weekend and let me know what you’ll be getting up to in the comments 🙂 Thanks so much for reading! XO

Five Favourites From The Week That Was!

This week has been all about getting back into the swing of things and embracing some normality, and I have to say, it’s felt good! As much as I love travelling, I’ll always love that feeling of coming home. Usually, one of the things I look forward to most is cooking again, as we do so little of it while travelling, and I really do love to cook. So it’s been really fun this week getting creative in the kitchen, and I’m going to ride this wave of enthusiasm as long as it lasts. I’m sure it won’t be long until we really are back to normal and are scratching our heads wondering what on earth to have for dinner each night!

This first week of November has bought with it fiercely hot weather – it’s scarcely been below 30 degrees during the daytime all week! This of course is nothing to write home about at this time of year in Australia, but it has been quite the change from Autumnal Europe! A cool change is on its way though, as a thunderstorm hit on Thursday night and another one is brewing as I sit here and type this on Friday afternoon. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect way to end the week actually – my love for thunderstorms knows no bounds!

In other, happy-related news, we received some very exciting news towards the end of our trip – my sister and her boyfriend are engaged!!! After being together since the end of high school, Fraser proposed to Lauren in Paris, her favourite city in the world, in the most beautifully romantic way, with the Eiffel Tower as their perfect backdrop. We could not be happier for them!

Here is a bunch of other things that have made be really happy this week!

1// Waking up with the sun. I love the longer days we have in the warmer months and I have been relishing waking up with the sun each morning. I’m sure it has a lot to do with the jet lag we can’t seem to shake, but I’m thinking of making it a permanent part of my morning routine. It’s just such a lovely way to wake up, and there’s nothing like having a few extra hours in the morning before work to do whatever I please!

2// The blooming Jacaranda trees. It was such a lovely surprise to wake up the morning after our return to Australia (as we’d flown in the night before) to find ourselves surrounded by a sea of purple! Spring just wouldn’t be Spring without it!

3// Learning a new card game! We were lucky enough to have some visitors this week – Ty’s Aunt and Uncle – and during their stay, they taught us a great card game that can be played with only two people. It’s called Golf and we’ve been playing it every afternoon this week! Have any of you ever played it?

4// Sephora.com.au is here! My request has finally been heard (ok, not just mine) and I’m really excited about being able to shop Sephora in Australia! Happy days!

5// Orange Is The New Black. Ty and I got into this show while on our honeymoon thanks to our Netflix obsession and we are almost through season 2 now. Do any of you watch it?

What have your favourite moments from the week been? I’d love to know! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend in store. We are heading home to my parent’s on Saturday for a little pre-engagement party get-together with the newly engaged couple so that’ll be a lot of fun! Aside from that, I’m hoping to catch up on the blog and just rest and relax before another week.

Happy weekend everyone and thanks so much for reading! XO

Five Favourites From The Week That Was!

Hello there, and happy Friday! Gosh what a week! It feels like it has been so much longer than 7 days, with all the things we’ve managed to fit in in that time, and yet like it was only yesterday that we were in Australia surrounded by our family and friends. From busy last minute preparations, to our wedding, to setting off on our honeymoon, this week has been so full of highs and highlights that I barely know how to start recapping it with my five favourite moments. I suppose I
should go back to basics though and remember what these posts are all about –
documenting the small, happy (and perhaps the seemingly insignificant) moments
that contribute so much happiness to my life, but might otherwise be forgotten. The big things will have their moments in due course, and so
it’s the little moments that deserve to be
remembered here.

So with that said, let’s get to it!

1// Running into old school friends! While we were at my parent’s house for the week leading up to our wedding, I managed to run into not one, but three old school friends from my primary school days. It had been SO long since I’d seen any of them and it was just really nice to randomly run into them while running errands down town.
2// A thunderstorm in Florence. I mentioned on Instagram that we had a thunderstorm in Florence on Wednesday night. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day, and made even more perfect with our cozy dinner of spaghetti bolognaise and some delicious gelato, eaten under our umbrella on the walk home.
3// Fresh peaches! Peach season is nearing it’s end here in Italy but Ty and I have been making up for lost time with fresh peaches every day. They are so juicy and sweet and moreish – the kind of peaches whose juice runs down your arms when you take a bite and you immediately wish you had another once you’ve finished! #obsessed
4// A sneak peak at wedding photos! It has been so wonderful to see a few sneak peaks of our wedding photos this week – quite a few have bought tears to my eyes! Our day was so magical but it passed just too quickly, so I’m loving reliving the memories through our photographs. Can’t wait to see the rest and share them with you here soon!
5// Italian coffee. And pizza. And wine. And pasta. And gelato. Ok, anything that’s Italian and food and/or drink related!
What has made you happiest this week? I’d love to hear below! Thanks so much for reading, and have a fab weekend! We are heading to Lake Como tomorrow and you know what that means – operation spot George Clooney will be in full swing 😉 XO

Five Favourites From The Week That Was!

Hello lovelies! It’s been quite the week here in beautiful Southern Queensland (sunny except for a rainy Friday evening, which was really just the cherry on top of a lovely week) and the weekend was such a great one too. We headed to my parent’s place with most of Ty’s family for a camping weekend! I love the outdoors and camping has been such a fun and novel activity for me ever since I was a kid, and I still just love it. Plus we had a huge bonfire and we all know what that means – toasted marshmallows! It was the perfect way to kick start our Spring!

Here are my favourite happy moments from the week that was…

1// Freshly laundered sheets. Honestly do I need to say anything more? There’s nothing better!

2// Spring cleaning. This is a very grown-up thing for me to admit, but I spent a good chunk of last week doing a big Spring clean of our house and…I loved it. (I know, I’m cringing too). But honestly, it felt so good to declutter and reorganise our space!

3// Jasmine in the house. Isn’t jasmine the most lovely scent ever? There is a huge bush of it growing just down the street and every time Ty and I have passed it over the last week, the scent has been so beautiful and intoxicating, in the very best of ways. To me, the scent of jasmine in the air is synonymous with Spring, so we picked a tiny bunch and have been enjoying it all week!

4// Red velvet cake testing! One of the very best tasks of planning a wedding 😉

5// The Spring weather. This week has been a week of perfect early Spring weather, and I’m so grateful for it. The days are slowly getting long enough that there is now actually some minutes of daylight left (about 15!) after I get home from work, and it makes me so happy!

What made you happy last week? Anything on the agenda for this week? I’ll be much the same for me, except I have a big work meeting on Wednesday that I’m really looking forward to! Have a wonderful week! XO

Five Favourites From The Week That Was!

Hello there lovelies! Happy Friday to you all! Hasn’t this week just flown by? I had Monday off from work but as I spent the day writing a job application (same job, just something more permanent), it has felt like a normal week here and not the short one I was hoping for. Every evening this week, I’ve been working into the late hours to catch up on things, so I’m feeling a little exhausted as I sit here and type this Friday morning. Luckily the weekend is just around the corner!

This weekend, my sister Lauren and I have plans to have a girly weekend at the Gold Coast and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m envisaging lounging by Pop’s pool, beach walks and catching up on our busy lives. I lived with Lauren all my life up until shortly before Ty and I went travelling abroad so I really miss not seeing her everyday like I used to.

Sometimes I wonder if we knew how good we had it back when we lived in the same city, because nowadays it feels like I only see her once in a blue moon! Anyway, at least we have this weekend together – I couldn’t be more excited for it. Just got to get through Friday first, but if today is anything like the rest of the week, I’m sure it’ll be over in a blink!

Here are a few happy things from the week that was!

1// Photography tutorials! It has literally been weeks and weeks since I’ve picked up my camera as I just haven’t had the time. I am determined to improve my skills and up my photography game though so after getting some great advice and suggestions from the lovely Sarah, I have been reading lots of tutorials online and even ordered my very first photography books!

2// Wedding shoes. I found and ordered my wedding shoes a few weeks ago and was crossing my fingers they’d arrive in time for my dress fitting this coming Monday. They arrived in the post today – perfect timing! Ty picked them up from the post office and I can’t wait to see them when I get home from work. I’ll share them on Instagram later if you want to have a peek 🙂

3// The sunshine. The weather has been really lovely of late and it finally feels like Spring is on its way. The days are getting longer and the nights are nowhere near as cold. Plus, I could wear my favourite sparrow-print dress and mustard cardigan combo to work on Tuesday shiver-free. I’m only too happy to retire the coats for another year!

4// Getting through my to-do list. Lately, I have been doing this really frustrated thing where I put off a lot of the little jobs I need to do, which inevitably leaves me with imaginary lists running through my head when I feeling try to rest at night. This week, I made to-do lists and slowly but surely got all these little things ticked off. Finally!

5// Achieving some big things at work. It’s such a great feeling when you have been working endlessly on a project for a couple of months, and then you finally achieve your goals. All that hard work does pay off in the end! It was such a wonderful feeling this week and really put a spring in my step.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend – what plans do you have? Or have you decided to go for no plans and are just going to wing it instead? Let me know below! XO
