A Sunday In The Hinterland

Bright and early last Sunday morning, after a perfect Saturday spent at the markets and enjoying a winery lunch with my family, I headed off to join Ty’s sisters and a friend for a day in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

The Sunshine Coast Hinterland, little more than an hour’s drive north of Brisbane, is a region of spectacular natural beauty and is rich with the historic charm of the towns of Montville, Maleny and surrounding areas. We had plans to spend the morning at a day spa, soaking in the natural surrounds, relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet.

After an hour shared between the sauna (with essential oils) and the magnesium pool and amazing spa, I left the others for a little drive around the quaint, little town of Flaxton. I soon discovered Flaxton Gardens, a most picturesque spot with views that extend forever. The entire coastline from Noosa to Moreton Island can be seen from the Garden’s terrace and kept me and my camera captivated for the longest time.
I’m so glad I stumbled upon Flaxton Gardens – the grounds themselves are so lovely and with the many dining options (a relaxed alfresco lunch or high tea on the terrace, or fine wine and quality food in the Vineyard Restaurant), this is a place I’d definitely love to visit again, and maybe have a bit to eat next time!
After the gardens, I slowly made my way back to Casa Di Natura to meet the girls. I stopped a few more times to take in some more quintessential Hinterland views (I can never get enough of gorgeous landscapes!) and spend a little time sitting in the sun, surrounded by the prettiest, summer time wildflowers. It was perfect!
Lunch was eaten and coffees were drunk in the historic town of Montville, at Poets Cafe – a charming establishment that is reminiscent of European cafe life – from Paris, to Vienna, to Piazza San Marco. Nestled among the trees on the Blackall Range, it has a wonderful vibe, gorgeous decor, delicious food, great coffee and the most stunning of views. Highly recommend!
All in all, it was the most relaxing, fun and indulgent day spent with the best girlfriends. It certainly rounded off one wonderful weekend just nicely!
Happy Monday! XO
