Santa Monica and Venice Beach

Well, I’m finally getting around to sharing the very last of our American road trip and adventures. Even though Ty and I have been home for over a month now, it literally feels like only yesterday that we were frolicking about overseas. It feels like the whole six months was just a dream – a truly incredible, life changing dream. We worked so hard to make that dream a reality and are now back to working hard to make the next trip possible (…oh and a wedding too!). I have so much to share from the last month being home, I barely know where to start! While I figure that out, I thought I’d share the last magical day Ty and I spent in the USA. If you ever visit LA, be sure not to miss Santa Monica and Venice Beach!

After our slightly underwhelming impressions of Hollywood
and downtown LA, our day trip out to Santa Monica and Venice Beach were a
breath of fresh air (literally and figuirtively). Ty and I were staying in the
heart of Hollywood, so bright and early one morning, we took the bus out to
Santa Monica. An hour later, we arrived and it truly was beautiful.

The beaches are very different to the beaches we know and
love in Australia, but the feeling you have when looking out over the ocean,
smelling the salt in the air and feeling the wind in your hair is very much the
same.

We loved the spectacle of the Santa Monica Pier – although
we didn’t go on any of the rides, we enjoyed it all the same. The day was warm
and sunny and so we walked along the paved walkway from the Pier to Venice
Beach. The first thing that struck us was the size of the seagulls here! In
Australia, they are just normal sized birds really, but these seagulls were
gigantic by comparison. I wish I had have been quick enough to snap a picture
to show you!

When we arrived at Venice Beach, the first thing we noticed
was its distinct bohemian vibe and laid back atmosphere. There were street
vendors lining the walkway and the area was bustling with tourists and locals
alike.

We stayed only a short while before walking back to Santa Monica for a
late lunch and our journey back to Hollywood. As this was our last full day in
the USA, we had a lot of packing to do before our flights home to Australia! Now that it’s winter here at home (although you would hardly know it), when I look back at these photos and our glorious spring weather, it makes me miss summer dresses and the beach!

What do you miss about summer (if you are here in the Southern Hemisphere) or winter (if you are in the Northern Hemisphere)? I’m curious to know!

Thanks so much for reading! xo
